Rennes have secured their place in the French Ligue 1 play-offs with a convincing victory over Angers, while Florian Thauvin's brace helped the Terriers to secure a comfortable win at home.

In front of a sold-out crowd at Stade de Rennes, Rennes took control from the off against Angers, dominating possession and creating numerous chances. However, it was the visitors who struck first through a long-range effort from Adama Traore that gave them the lead early on.

But Rennes were not to be denied and they responded well to take the lead themselves just before half-time. Florian Thauvin netted his fourth goal of the season after some excellent work down the left flank to level the scores.

Thauvin then added a second shortly after the restart, curling a superb free-kick past the Angers goalkeeper to make it 2-1. The game was now all but sewn up for Rennes and they completed the job with ease, winning comfortably thanks to two more goals from Thauvin.

It was another impressive display from Rennes, who have now won six of their last seven league games and will fancy their chances of securing a spot in Europe next term. Meanwhile, Angers remain rooted to the bottom of the table, with just one point from their last nine games.
